“If you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.” Col 3:1-2

Financial advisors encourage people to begin getting ready for retirement as soon as they start working by investing a little bit from each paycheck. Choices like this are hard to make in the beginning as the day when you are no longer working can feel far away, and it may seem like there are more urgent things you want to do with the money. Often we are creatures of the moment and struggle to sacrifice for the future. Today reminds us of the truth that our eternal future is vastly more important than the future of our finances. Just like with our finances, with our sanctification, we often know what we should be doing but struggle to do it. What choices are we making today to invest in eternity? While the end of our life may feel like a long way away, we must face the truth that we have a limited time here on earth, and we never know when the moment of our death may come. Let’s choose each day to live for eternity.

Primera Lectura-Eclesiastés 1, 2; 2, 21-23 | Salmo Responsorial - Salmo 89 | Segunda Lectura - Col 3, 1-5. 9-11 | Evangelio - Lc 12, 13-21

“Puesto que ustedes han resucitado con Cristo, busquen los bienes de arriba, donde está Cristo, sentado a la derecha de Dios. Pongan todo el corazón en los bienes del cielo, no en los de la tierra.” Col 3, 1-2

Los asesores financieros recomiendan que nos preparemos para la jubilación en cuanto comencemos a trabajar, invirtiendo un porcentaje de cada sueldo. Este tipo de decisión puede ser difícil de tomar al principio, ya que el día en que deje de trabajar puede parecer muy lejano, y existen cosas más urgentes que podemos hacer con ese dinero. Muchas veces somos esclavos del momento y nos cuesta hacer sacrificios para el futuro. Las lecturas de hoy nos recuerdan que nuestro futuro eterno es mucho más importante que el futuro de nuestras finanzas. Al igual que con nuestras finanzas, también sabemos lo que deberíamos hacer para nuestra santificación pero nos cuesta hacerlo. ¿Qué decisiones estamos tomando hoy para invertir en la eternidad? Aunque el final de nuestra vida puede parecer muy lejano, debemos afrontar la realidad de que tenemos un tiempo limitado aquí en la tierra, y nunca sabemos cuándo puede llegar el momento de nuestra muerte. Elijamos cada día vivir para la eternidad.
