About our Trip:
We will travel once again to Piura, Peru to work in conjunction with Fr. Joe Uhen and the missionary team from the Parish of Santisimo Sacramento (Most Blessed Sacrament) where we will stay. We will have the opportunity to share in the daily work for the poor and also to experience the heroic faith of the people there. 63% of Piuranos live in poverty and 22% live in extreme poverty (lacking their daily bread.) Everyday we will have a different opportunity to serve the poor ranging from building bamboo homes, delivering packages of food/blankets/clothing, visiting the elderly and orphans, and more.
In addition to our time in Piura for the week, on the way there we will stop for a day in Lima to visit pilgrim sites, for shopping and dining while overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Cost and Transportation:
This year will be different than previous years where we purchased group transportation through the airlines. We have had difficult getting good prices through group transportation with the airlines. Tickets through group transportation are close to $1700/person while an individual ticket is currently $1350. As a result we are going to have interested missionaries purchase their own airline ticket, preferably through Michelle Bohn of Source 1 Travel so that she can get as many of us on the exact same flights so that as many of the group as possible can travel together and experience the day trip in Lima.

Once we arrive in Piura the staff of Santisimo Sacramento parish will meet us at the airport and transport us around all week. In addition to the cost of the ticket, there is an expense of $350/person for room and board at Santisimo Sacramento in Piura for the week, tour in Lima and Missionary Travel Insurance.
Total Cost: Approximately $1700 but will vary as the cost of the airline ticket may vary as the planes fill.
There is a dorm inside the church for missionaries. There is a cook staff that feeds us three times a day in the missionary mess hall inside the dorm. Most rooms sleep 4 people. There are a couple of private rooms available on a first come first serve basis. Room accommdations are coordinated through Kurt.
Step 1: Email Kurt Klement, trip coordinator to reserve a spot with our group. St. Ann has reserved a group with Santisimo Sacramento parish in Piura, so missionaries need to be coordinated through our parish.
Step 2: Email Michelle Bohn at Source 1 Travel to purchase your airline ticket.
Step 3: Remaining $350 cost due to St. Ann by our trip in June.
We at St. Ann never want finances to prevent a person from being a part of an experience like this. We encouarge individuals to raise PERSONAL FUNDS to offset the $1750 registration fee through letters or online fundraising campaigns especially through YouCaring.com. Email Kurt if you need to talk about your situation. Missionaries who have asked for support in the past have been able to get the support they need.
Keep in mind that fundraising is an important way to get others, who might not otherwise have an opportunity to go on a mission, involved in your experience. Not only do they contribute financially to the work of serving the poor but they will have the opportunity to pray for our effort and stay connected to our trip.
