Getting to know God is the focus of the first grade. Who is God? Is He like anyone I know? Does He know me? Does He care about me? What was Jesus' life like? These are some of the questions that will be discussed.
The major concepts covered in the second grade are the Eucharist, Mass, and Reconciliation. It is at this time that preparation for both sacraments begins. The children are presented with the reality that God lives inside them.
Third grade classes focus on the Church, as their other family, and the privileges and responsibilities associated with being a member. They will explore the Sacristy and the other places in the Church, and learn about the vessels and vestments used for Mass. They also learn about the Apostles' Creed in detail.
Reconciliation is the major topic of fourth grade. Units covered include the commandments, sin, and grace. Students will focus on God's healing love and forgiveness, while exploring areas in their lives that may need some kind of change.
Fifth grade focuses on the Sacraments. Topics introduced in earlier grades are now examined in greater depth in an effort to help students gain a better understanding of these channels of God's grace.
