- What is “Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today”?
Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today is our blueprint for bringing the transforming presence of Jesus Christ to our world. It answers the question of how we, as a parish, can live out our baptismal call to be followers of Jesus Christ. We have laid out the work that we will do through our ministries and departments, the resources required and the facilities to foster our community.
- How did the strategic plan come about?
In order to ensure that the parish and its ministries continue to fulfill God’s calling to be vital and vibrant, meeting the needs of parishioners Fr. Henry Petter initiated this a Strategic Planning process with the support of the parish leadership: The Pastoral Council, the Finance Council and the Stewardship Council.
- Who was a part of the planning process?
Father Henry with the help of Lay Leadership and staff formed a 30-person Strategic Planning Steering Committee. The Steering Committee was comprised of council members from all three councils, parishioners, ministry leaders and staff. Nationally known Meitler Consulting was engaged to facilitate the process.
- What role did parishioners play in the process?
Parish council leadership and ministry leaders were a significant portion of the Steering Committee. In addition, parishioner input was gathered through listening sessions, committee work groups, meetings and direct communication. The latest work to gather parishioner input was the feasibility study to help determine capital project priorities.
- What kind of assessment was done in the strategic plan?
To understand the environment in which St. Ann Parish exists and what could impact our future, the following were assessed: growth patterns of the parish, the diocesan plans for future parishes, and the latest economic trends from census and government planning documents.
- What does the plan encompass?
Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today lays out the work that we are doing and will do through our ministries and departments; the resources required in terms of personnel and contributions; and the facilities needed to foster our growing community.
- How do we keep the plan current?
Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today will be reviewed and updated on annual basis to ensure that the work are on target and any needed adjustments are made.
- What is the Feasibility Study?
The feasibility study was the way that we gained parishioner input on the capital projects that were developed as part of the strategic plan. We sought parishioner input to help prioritize these projects. This input was gathered in two ways. All parishioners were invited via email, announcements, the web site and bulletin ads to participate in an online survey. A smaller group of parishioners were interviewed face-to-face by a consulting group provided by the Diocese. The results were compiled and presented to Fr. Henry and the parish leadership.
Parishioner feedback indicated that building community is a higher priority than undertaking large building projects. The first projects that we will undertake as part of Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today are the renovation of the St. Ann Center; the construction of a parking lot at the NW corner of Sandy Lake and Samuel; and the establishment of a dedicated capital improvement fund for our parish.
- What is “Our Faith… Our Future”?
Our Faith…Our Future, the first diocesan capital campaign ever conducted, which seeks to raise $125 million. Our Faith…Our Future will raise the funds necessary to effectively address the vital needs of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Dallas and to establish an achievable plan for the future of our parishes, schools, vocations and seminary activities, the restoration of the landmark Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe and to expand Catholic Charities.
- How does our capital campaign work with that of the Diocese?
Each parish in the Diocese of Dallas is participating in the Our Faith...Our Future capital campaign. Every parish has a goal based on their 2012 collections. All parishes have been asked for equal sacrifice, but not necessarily equal dollar amounts. St. Ann parish has been assigned a financial target of $4.65 million. This amount incorporates our parish capital needs so that we conduct one initiative. We will receive 30% of the funds raised up to our goal and 70% of the funds in excess of our goal.
- How long will this campaign last?
The support of our parishioners will ultimately determine how long the campaign lasts. The gifts being sought are spread over a three to five year time span. The pledge drive will last through the fall of 2015.
- What are the Six Pillars and what do they mean?
During the planning process we defined the areas that we can focus upon to bring about our vision and to carry out our mission. They are: Worship, Discipleship, Service, Connection, Community, and Unity. The plan is presented by these areas, which we refer to as our pillars. You may recognize many of these pillars, as they probably are what drew you to St. Ann Parish. Two of these pillars, Connection and Community, you asked us to build through your input in group listening sessions, in personal communications and committee work.
- As a parishioner, what should I expect from Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today?
From Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today you should see the continuation of the efforts that helped our parish grow. You should also see new initiatives that are designed to draw people closer to Jesus, one another, and our parish. This plan will be shaped by our parishioners. We will proceed at a pace largely determined by the support of our parishioners. As with any of the large efforts undertaken at St. Ann, for this plan to be successful we need your prayer, time, talent and financial support.
- If I want more information about the Strategic Plan, where can I get it?
You can find more information about Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today on our web site, www.stannparish.org. Updates will be provided on the web site, in the bulletin, and through social media.
- Why doesn’t the regular church budget pay for the new items in the Strategic Plan?
The annual stewardship appeal, our regular church budget, raises the funds necessary for the daily operations of the parish. As your response to our call to support our budget grows, so will our ability to take on more initiatives from Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today. Large building projects that will serve the parish for many years are always funded through special efforts, called capital campaigns. Building Tomorrow’s Parish Today will need your support in both efforts: our annual stewardship appeal and our capital campaign.
